First things first. ‘Where you will be five years from now will depend on three things: the books you
read, the company you keep and the decisions you take’. That may sound like three elements of
success but is essentially just one. Where you will be five years from now will depend on the books
you read because the company you keep and the decisions you take will be influenced by the kind of
books you read. Of course just reading without taking appropriate action will not produce any
positive results. Yet what you read will shape your thoughts and your thoughts will determine your
actions which will produce results. That is why what Hugh Hewitt has said is so true. He says,
“Leaders are readers and readers are leaders.”
Masses all over the world are looking for some charismatic yet practical leaders to lead them.
Hewitt's thoughts on ingredients of leadership are once again so relevant. He says “But leadership
is always looking for the next generation of leadership and that is not a specific talent. It is a
package of skills and disciplines, one of which is intellectual curiosity. This curiosity is the first
ingredient of leadership.” It is important for young leaders to cultivate intellectual curiosity.
We are starting with just ten books for the time being. employee2owner will start a recommended
book of the month programme soon.
The list of ten books that is being put up initially is obviously not an exhaustive list. It is in no
particular order though Robert Kiyosaki’s 'Rich Dad poor Dad', should perhaps be the first book to
pick up if you are on the verge of deciding what career to choose. These books are being
recommend because of the powerful message each one conveys. These books should be basic
reading for anyone who wants a good perspective on how to be the kind of person future world
citizens and leaders ought to be. They will help you become the best person you can be.
employee2owner is committed to helping people realize their potential and we feel that these books
form essential reading to achieving that end. These books need to be read again and again till they
become an integral part of your intrinsic thinking. These books should lay the foundation for a
successful life in the Information Age though some of them were written in the early part of the
twentieth century. It just goes to prove that the basic principles of success and character never
change.
