Course Description

This course is designed to help improve listening skills.


Course Objectives

By the conclusion of the course, the participants will be able to more effectively understand other
points of view, gather more accurate information, provide more accurate responses to questions,
and make the process of providing service or assistance more efficient.  The participants will also
learn to identify the feelings that accompany a verbal statement through observation of nonverbal
behaviors and such elements as analysis of tone and rate of delivery.  Probing for more information,
listening vs. hearing, and practicing how to be a better listener will be integral parts of this course.


Course Goals

1.        To understand the elements of effective listening in the communication process

2.        To determine the reasons why communication breakdowns occur and discuss strategies for
overcoming them

3.        To practice effective listening techniques

4.        To understand the difference between hearing and listening

5.        To reduce costly mistakes and losses caused by miscommunication among customers and
coworkers
